RAF Flypast to inspire runners at the Ilkley Half Marathon

Ilkley Half Marathon on 12 July will experience a flypast from the Royal Air Force’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

The Ilkley Half Marathon is set to receive a truly memorable salute this year, with a special flypast from the Royal Air Force’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) planned as part of the event celebrations.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is renowned for preserving and displaying some of the most iconic aircraft in British aviation history. Its appearances at major national events serve as a powerful tribute to the service and sacrifice of those who have served in the Royal Air Force and the wider Armed Forces.

Spectators, volunteers and runners alike will have the opportunity to witness this spectacular aerial display above Ilkley, adding an extra sense of occasion to race day. The flypast will provide a fitting backdrop as participants take on the challenging yet scenic course through the beautiful Yorkshire landscape on Sunday 12th July 2026.

The specific aircraft taking part, along with the scheduled flypast time, will be confirmed closer to the event. As with all Battle of Britain Memorial Flight appearances, the flypast remains subject to weather conditions and aircraft serviceability on the day.

Race organisers are delighted to be able to include this unique element within the event programme and encourage attendees to keep an eye on official event communications for the latest updates.

Whether you’re running, volunteering, supporting friends and family, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, the sight and sound of Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft over Ilkley promises to be one of the highlights of the day.

Further details regarding the flypast will be announced as soon as they are available.
