An Ilkley businessman and two fellow thrill-seekers have raised £5,700 for a Yorkshire children’s charity after completing a skydive from more than 15,000ft.
Simon Hawkshaw, from Ilkley-based Bathe of Wharfedale, took on the tandem skydive alongside his friend Nick Simpson and Nick’s daughter Harriet Simpson.
The trio completed the challenge at the Grange-over-Sands drop zone on Saturday 7th August in aid of The Principle Trust Children’s Charity.
Strapped to experienced instructors, Simon, Nick and Harriet jumped from more than 15,000ft and reached speeds of up to 125mph during their free fall.
Their efforts raised £5,700 for The Principle Trust, which provides free respite breaks for children and families across Yorkshire facing some of life’s toughest challenges.
The charity operates a 100% donation policy, meaning every penny raised from the skydive will go directly towards supporting families.
The £5,700 total is enough to fund nine week-long holidays for nine families.
Simon is a patron and long-standing supporter of The Principle Trust and has been involved with the charity for more than five years.
Speaking about the challenge, he said:
“The skydive was a once-in-a-lifetime challenge and, while it was definitely outside of our comfort zones, we knew we were doing it for a cause that means a great deal to us.
“We want to extend our sincere thanks to every person who donated. It’s going to make such a difference to so many families, and we’re very grateful for the support.”
