The organisers of this Friday's Ilkley Cycle Races are appealing for local volunteers to help ensure one of the town's biggest sporting events is a success.
Organised entirely by volunteers from Ilkley Cycling Club, the races have become one of the highlights of the British Cycling calendar, attracting elite riders from across the UK and around the world. This year's event will welcome competitors from as far afield as the United States, Brazil, Ireland and the Netherlands, putting Ilkley firmly in the international sporting spotlight.
While the racing lasts just one evening, staging an event of this scale requires a huge team of volunteers to help with all aspects of the event. The club is urging members of the local community to give just a few hours of their time on Friday to help showcase Ilkley at its very best.

Martin Peace, Chair of Ilkley Cycling Club said:
"These races simply couldn't happen without volunteers. It's a fantastic opportunity to be part of an event that brings world-class sport to our streets while generating a real buzz for the town. Every volunteer plays a vital role in making the event safe, welcoming and successful."
David Shaw MBE, Chair of Ilkley Community Network, said: "Volunteering is the lifeblood of our community. It brings people together, strengthens local organisations and makes events like the Ilkley Cycle Races possible. The Ilkley Cycle Races is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when local people give their time and energy for the benefit of others. Whether you can spare an hour or an evening, your support will help showcase Ilkley at its very best and ensure this fantastic event continues to thrive."
The Ilkley Cycle Races have built a reputation for exciting, fast-paced racing and a vibrant atmosphere, drawing thousands of spectators into the town centre each year. Beyond the sporting spectacle, the event provides a welcome boost for local businesses and demonstrates what can be achieved through community effort.

Whether you're a cycling fan or simply want to support a major local event, volunteers of all backgrounds are welcome. No previous experience is necessary, and all equipment & guidance will be provided.
Anyone able to spare a few hours on Friday is encouraged to sign up today at volunteersignup.org/9KBED. Every volunteer makes a real difference and helps ensure this flagship event continues to thrive while keeping Ilkley on the map as a destination for international cycle racing.
