Ilkley set to bloom as businesses battle it out in new wheelbarrow competition

Wheelbarrow competition.

Ilkley is set to bloom as more than 20 local businesses take part in a new wheelbarrow competition celebrating the Ilkley Flower Show.

For the first time, Ilkley BID has teamed up with the Ilkley Flower Show to launch the Blooming Ilkley competition, inviting businesses to decorate wheelbarrows around the theme.

The competition aims to give local businesses the chance to get involved with the popular annual event while adding colourful and creative displays around the town.

Among those taking part are The Hearing Suite, TaxAssist Accountants, 5th Avenue Clothes, Nora's Interiors & Gifts and Skipton Building Society, with each business putting its own spin on the Blooming Ilkley theme.

Visitors are being encouraged to keep an eye out for the decorated wheelbarrows while exploring Ilkley.

The entries will be judged by Ilkley Flower Show patron Alan Titchmarsh, while a People’s Choice vote will also give members of the public the opportunity to pick their favourite display. Details of how to vote are set to be announced soon.

The Ilkley Flower Show takes place on Saturday, September 19th, with a programme of events and competitions planned for the day.

A dedicated Ilkley Flower Show page has also been created on the Discover Ilkley website, where visitors can view the programme, find out more about the event and discover how to enter.
