More than 70 veterans, serving personnel and supporters gathered at The Lister Arms in Ilkley to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the Ilkley Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club.
The popular monthly gathering has grown steadily since its launch, becoming a valued part of the town’s community and a vital support network for those connected to the Armed Forces.
The club provides a relaxed and welcoming environment where veterans and service personnel can reconnect, share experiences and enjoy a sense of camaraderie over breakfast.
Among those attending the anniversary event were Suzanne Watson, Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, MP Robbie Moore, and Ilkley Town Mayor, Councillor Jane Gibson. There were also representatives from SSAFA the Armed Forces Charity, the Royal British Legion and the Veteran Information Point also joined the celebration.

Adding a unique touch to the morning, members of the Haworth Home Guard re-enactment group attended in full 1940s uniform, sparking interest and conversation among guests.
Co-founder Paul Wilson said:
“We’ve grown so much since we first came up with the idea at a BBQ. It’s fantastic to see how the club has developed and the difference it makes to people.”
Fellow co-founder Mark Sugrue added:
“The aim has always been to create a safe, friendly space where people feel welcome. The support from the Ilkley community has been outstanding.”
Co-founder Jason Sands said:
“It’s about bringing people together—good food, good company and making sure no one feels left out.”
The Ilkley Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club meets on the last Saturday of each month from 10am to 12pm at The Lister Arms, Wetherspoons on South Hawksworth Street in Ilkley. All members of the Armed Forces community are welcome.
