A man who admitted killing an Ilkley cyclist as he tried to overtake on Denton Road has been jailed for 10 years and five months.
Sohail Jahangir performed a dangerous overtake, killing cyclist Adrian Stocks as he was training for a charity cycle ride.
Jahangir, 23, from Woodview in Bradford appeared at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday 16 July where he was jailed for seven years and seven months for causing Adrian's death by dangerous driving.
He was also handed two, two-year jail terms for drug dealing offences including being concerned in the supply of heroin, being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply in Bradford between April and June 2025. He was handed a 10-month sentence for a separate dangerous driving offence in Bradford in 2024.
In total, Jahangir has been locked up for 10 years and seven months.
He was also disqualified from driving for 15 years and two months and is required to take an extended driving test before he can get his licence back. The court also ordered him to forfeit three vehicles.
Jahangir pleaded not guilty all the way through the death by dangerous driving investigation, then changed his plea to guilty on the day he was due to stand trial on 5 May 2026.

About 5pm on Sunday 2 April 2023, 59-year-old Adrian was travelling along Denton Road, away from Ilkley in the direction of Otley.
As he approached Denton bridge, off Denton Road, near Ilkley, indicating that he was turning right, a car approached Adrian from behind and sensibly slowed down, allowing Adrian plenty of room and remained behind him.
As Adrian and the car behind slowed down, to allow Adrian to turn right, a blue Audi Q2 driven by Sohail Jahangir, approached from behind. Instead of slowing and waiting, Jahangir chose to overtake, despite not knowing if the way ahead was clear and in doing so collided with Adrian as he was mid-way through his right turn into the bridge junction.
Tragically, and despite the valiant efforts of members of the public who stopped to provide first-aid to Adrian, he died as a result of Jahangir's dangerous driving.
Adrian's wife said in her Victim Personal Statement:
"On the day he died, Adrian had been cycling to Bolton Abbey, he was on his way home on a training ride, preparing for a 'One in A Million' charity event in May to raise funds for underprivileged youths in Bradford. He was always keen to help those less fortunate than ourselves. He was enjoying the beautiful countryside he loved so much on that sunny afternoon.
"But he never came home. In that moment - our lives were shattered.
"Adrian's absence has left a permanent void in our family and in our lives. Every single day we are confronted with the reality of what we have lost - a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend and the impact of this tragedy is lasting, profound and immeasurable."
Detective Constable Richard Grey, from North Yorkshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Team, said:
"This case highlights how utterly tragic these incidents are. I’ve come to learn over the time since this collision, what a well-respected and much-loved man Adrian Stocks was to all who knew him.
"Adrian set out that day to get some training for a charity event he was taking part in and was doing nothing wrong. He was riding along, using the road in a responsible and safe manner as was described by the witness who also did exactly the right thing by slowing and allowing him space to turn right.
"The one who did not do the right thing was Sohail Jahangir. His actions have caused this tragedy and from that day onward will have lasting effects on all who have been involved.
"These investigations are complex and take a long time to arrive at conclusions. I’d like to extend my gratitude to the Stocks family for their patience and cooperation, but also for their dignity in the face of such devasting circumstances. They are truly remarkable.
"My thanks also go to the members of the public who found themselves involved in an horrendous incident, but who put their own needs aside to offer first aid to Adrian and gave their time to assist in the ongoing investigation. I know the Stocks family are also truly grateful and were comforted to know that caring people were with Adrian in these last moments.
"I’d also like to acknowledge my fellow emergency service colleagues who were in attendance. While I know it’s the job, I never underestimate how difficult these incidents are."
