The Grove Bookshop has announced three author events in the coming weeks.
On Thursday 23rd April they welcome poet and novelist Rachel Bower, who will be discussing her fiction debut, It Comes from the River.
The book tells the story of three women, Alex, Lauren and Nancy, who are trapped in their own lives, swept along by forces beyond their control. But there's another character in the book, beckoning, menacing, hiding within bushes and behind shadows; this is a rich, wild, unsettling book which will absorb you with its thrilling mixture of light and dark, fear and hope, and sheer magic.
Then on Wednesday 29th April, author and academic J.T. Welsch will be at the bookshop to talk about his new book, The Poetry of Suicide, which writer Adam Farrer has described as "a deeply moving study of suicide, loss and poetic creativity.
A bold and truly vital work." J.T. will be in conversation with fellow academic Mary Fairclough for what promises to be a thought-provoking evening.
Finally, on Thursday 7th May, debut novelist Angela Tomaski will be in the shop to discuss her fabulous book, The Infamous Gilberts. The book begins in the crumbling, Gothic mansion of Thornwalk as it's about to be handed over to a luxury hotel chain. We join Maximus, the loyal family retainer, who takes us on a journey round the house, calling up the stories of the many members of the Gilbert family who have lived and died there over the last hundred years.
A story of privilege and pain, comedy and tragedy, which never loses its sense of humour or its ability to move the reader. Lovers of The Whalebone Theatre won't be the only ones who will love this book!
