Dr Tom Hollins from Airedale Hospital came second place in last weekend's Montane Winter Spine Sprint race,
The Deputy Medical Director, took part in one of the toughest ultra trail race series in the country.
He previously won the Challenger South in 2016, the Full Spine in 2017 and come second at the Challenger North last year, Tom is now the only person to have been on the podium at all four versions of the race.
Saturday’s Sprint race took place between Edale and Hebden Bridge, a total of 45 miles, in full winter conditions with lying snow and ice and sub-zero temperatures.
Tom said:
“I have done the races in a variety of conditions, but this weekend was the stuff you dream of for a winter race with blue skies and deep snow. Beautiful and brutal in equal measure.”
Tom’s previous endurance feats includes completing the world first vertical marathon, running up Pendle Hill 223 times back-to-back, completing 195 miles and 26.2 miles of ascent.
He also holds the fastest time for running all 30 mountains in the Yorkshire Dales non-stop.
The Montane Winter Spine is an epic annual challenge and is widely regarded as Britain’s most brutal endurance race.
With an international following, the 268-mile race along the full length of the Pennine Way began on Sunday, 12 January 2025 – it has a time limit of 168 hours and a total ascent of over 10,000m.
It will conclude on 19 January in Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.
