Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway set for Oktoberfest takeover

Oktoberfest at Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway.

A taste of Bavaria is coming to the Yorkshire Dales next month as the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway hosts its own Oktoberfest celebration.

The heritage railway will hold the event on Saturday 3rd October, promising an evening of live music, entertainment and plenty of audience participation.

At the heart of the event will be a six-piece Oompah Band, which will perform two high-energy 45-minute sets.

There will also be roaming musicians and singers performing throughout the evening, alongside traditional stein stomping and singalongs to classic favourites.

Guests will also be able to take part in interactive Bavarian Bingo, hosted by the event's MC.

Two vocalists will perform during the night before a DJ takes over to keep the dance floor going into the evening.

Organisers are encouraging visitors to embrace the Oktoberfest theme, with lederhosen and other Bavarian-inspired outfits welcomed.

The event provides a slightly different setting for the traditional German celebration, taking place at the volunteer-run heritage railway between Embsay and Bolton Abbey.

The railway regularly hosts themed services and special events alongside its programme of steam and heritage train journeys.

Organisers said:

“Get ready for an unforgettable evening of Oktoberfest-style entertainment as our lively Oompah Band brings the spirit of Bavaria to the Yorkshire Dales!”

They added:

“So grab your lederhosen, raise a stein, and climb aboard for a unique night of music, laughter, and Bavarian cheer at Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway!”

Oktoberfest takes place at Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway on Saturday 3rd October 2026, with advance booking recommended.
