Ilkley residents offered chance to try an e-bike for up to four weeks

Ilkley residents can try e-bikes for up to four weeks.

Ilkley residents are being given the opportunity to borrow an electric bike for up to four weeks through Climate Action Ilkley’s Active Travel Hub.

The scheme is designed to help people find out whether an e-bike could work for them before committing to buying one.

Participants can use the bikes for everyday journeys, including commuting, shopping, appointments and meeting friends, with the wider project aiming to encourage more people to walk, cycle and use other forms of active travel.

Climate Action Ilkley has already helped more than 50 local residents try an e-bike through four-week loans over the past three years, with some going on to buy an e-bike after enjoying the experience.

The scheme uses a small fleet of Volt Infinity hybrid bikes, available in different frame sizes.

They are designed for use on roads and surfaced cycle paths.

As part of the loan, participants are also provided with a lock, panniers, helmet and hi-vis jacket, while the bikes have integrated lights.

Loans are available for between one and four weeks, with prices starting at £50 for one week.

A four-week loan costs £80, with a £50 refundable deposit also required.

Those borrowing a bike are given a briefing and test ride when they collect it, with an instructor also available to explain how the e-bike works, how to recharge it and how to look after it during the loan period.

The scheme is supported by local bike business 93 Cycles, which can help with any issues experienced during the loan.

The Ilkley Active Travel Hub project aims to encourage more people to walk, cycle and wheel, helping to reduce car use, congestion, air pollution and carbon emissions.

Residents interested in taking part can register their interest through the Active Ilkley e-bike loan scheme.
