Alan Titchmarsh shares new changes to Ilkley Manor House in new video

Essential restoration work is underway at one of Ilkley’s most important historic buildings, as work begins to protect the future of the town’s Manor House.

Ilkley Manor House, which dates back to the medieval period and is a Grade I-listed building, is undergoing essential roof repairs after concerns were raised about slipped stone roof tiles.

Television gardener and presenter Alan Titchmarsh, who is patron of the Ilkley Manor House, has appeared in a new video explaining the changes and the importance of the restoration work.

The restoration is being funded by Bradford Council, with the work expected to cost around £100,000.

The council previously confirmed it would fund the repairs following discussions with the Ilkley Manor House Trust.

Scaffolding has been erected around the building while specialist contractors work on the historic roof.

The full extent of the repairs is being assessed as the roof tiles are removed, with the aim of ensuring the building is protected for years to come.

The Manor House is currently home to a programme of cultural events and activities, as well as a museum and permanent art gallery.

It is open to visitors at weekends and admission is free.

The council has previously said the aim is to carry out the necessary work sympathetically so the historic building can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.
