New 24-hour gym to open in Ilkley tomorrow

Squat Fitness, Ilkley.

A new independent 24-hour gym will open its doors in Ilkley after months of work to get the facility ready.

Squats Fitness is based at Marsel House on Springs Lane, where the new gym has been created as an all-hours training facility.

The team had originally hoped to open last year, but says the launch was delayed by a series of challenges including council red tape, power shortages, uneven floors and even a family of wasps taking over the extractor fans.

Now the gym is open, although the team says some finishing touches are still being completed.

Planned improvements over the coming months include the introduction of classes, additional equipment, further disabled access provisions and extra air conditioning on the main floor.

There are also a few smaller jobs still to be completed, including fixing a water fountain which "keeps shooting water indiscriminately", replacing some light bulbs and tracking down an accessories rack ordered several months ago.

Squats Fitness describes itself as an independent, high-tech training facility, created from the ground up with the aim of offering a different kind of gym experience.

Membership is currently available to people aged 18 and over.

The age restriction is due to insurance requirements associated with the gym's 24-hour access system.

Membership costs £29.99 per month, with no joining fee and no contract.

An annual membership is also available for £299.

The gym's regular staffed hours are Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

The team says additional staffed hours will be provided during the first few weeks as it settles into the new facility and helps members with any queries.

The gym's opening follows months of preparation, with the team saying it wanted to avoid a "cold exercise" of people simply queuing to complete forms and collect access tags.

New members are therefore being asked to book an appointment to sign up and get acquainted with the facility.
