The Box Tree in Ilkley is set to reopen its doors this week following a major refurbishment, with chef Brayden Davies taking on the role of Chef Patron and joining the ownership of the restaurant.
The historic restaurant will reopen on Wednesday 9th September, marking the start of a new chapter for the well-known Ilkley establishment.
Davies joined The Box Tree as Head Chef in early 2024 and has since developed a style of cooking influenced by his Australian roots, modern European training and experiences working in kitchens around the world.
His career has included time at The Raby Hunt and Northcote, as well as working alongside Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall.
At The Box Tree, Davies has focused on seasonal cooking and British and European produce, while also bringing Australian ingredients and flavours into his menus.
He has also developed relationships with Yorkshire producers, incorporating local ingredients where they complement his cooking.
His new role will see him continue to lead the kitchen while taking a greater role in the overall direction of the restaurant, including its food, guest experience and future development.
Davies said he was proud to be taking on the new position and becoming part of the restaurant's ownership.
He said:
“The Box Tree has an incredible history, and to now be part of shaping its future is something I’m immensely proud of.
“Since joining the restaurant, I’ve been able to develop a style of cooking that feels personal to me, drawing on my Australian roots, the experiences I’ve had throughout my career and the brilliant produce we have access to here in Yorkshire and further afield.
“This next chapter gives us the opportunity to keep evolving, both in the kitchen and across the restaurant as a whole.”
The reopening follows a significant refurbishment of the restaurant and bar, with the new interiors inspired by the surrounding Yorkshire landscape and moorland.
The work aims to give the historic venue a contemporary identity while retaining its connection to the local area.
The Box Tree will reopen on Wednesday 9th September, with Davies' appointment and the refurbishment marking a significant change for the long-established Ilkley restaurant.
