Mayfield View named winner of Ilkley wheelbarrow competition

Mayfield Care Uk won overall.

Mayfield View has been crowned the overall winner of a floral competition which has seen businesses across Ilkley create colourful wheelbarrow displays.

The competition has been held in the run-up to the Ilkley Flower Show, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday 19th September) at All Saints Church.

Businesses across the town were invited to create their own displays, with gardener and broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh judging the entries in his role as Patron of the Ilkley Flower Show.

Mayfield View took the overall title, with Ilkley Scope Shop finishing second and Skipton Building Society taking third place.

Porters Menswear received the Sustainability Award, while Fuggle & Golding Tap House was recognised for the Most Innovative Display.

The People's Choice Award, decided by a public vote, went to 5th Avenue Clothes.

Alan Titchmarsh CBE DL VMH said:

“What a difficult job I had deciding on the winners.

“It’s really rewarding to see so many entries and such vivid imaginations!

“Thanks to all those who entered and made Ilkley’s shop windows bring a smile to the faces of passers-by.

"Well done all!”

Each of the winners was presented with a certificate by David Shaw, Chair of the Ilkley Flower Show.

Organisers said the displays have helped brighten up Ilkley ahead of the return of the show and thanked all of the businesses that took part.

The winning wheelbarrows will also be individually showcased in the run-up to the event.

The Ilkley Flower Show takes place at All Saints Church on Church Street tomorrow (Saturday), starting at 2pm.
