Yesterday evening [Monday 2 September], Yorkshire Water technicians were called to a burst water main on New Brook Street in Ilkley which had cut off the water supply to hundreds of homes and businesses across the town.
Residents commented on the Ilkley Chat Facebook page from North to West, across Ilkley and Ben Rhydding, saying how they had no water.
Many hospitality businesses had to close, however one business that had a normal water supply was The Ilkley Cow - the restaurant on New Brook Street with the burst water main on its doorstep.
A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said:
“When we were made aware of a burst water main yesterday evening, our team was on site within half an hour to inspect and begin restoring supplies to homes without water.
“We opted to rezone the network in the first instance, meaning that within three hours of the initial burst, most properties had their supply back. The repair was complex, and our technicians worked throughout the night to completely repair the main and return the network to normal operation by this morning.
“We know that loss of water supply can be incredibly inconvenient and would like to apologise to our customers in Ilkley and thank them for their patience whilst our team worked hard to return supply.
“Our team will be reinstating the impacted road as quickly as possible.”
