The Ilkley Business Improvement District (BID) has unveiled a striking new visual project to celebrate Yorkshire Day and boost the town’s appeal to visitors and residents alike.
Forty flags now line Leeds Road, Skipton Road and Church Street, featuring the iconic Yorkshire Rose alongside Discover Ilkley branding.
Installed in time for Yorkshire Day on 1st August, which this year is co-hosted by Ilkley and Bradford, the permanent flags are designed to create a vibrant and lasting impression for those arriving in the town.
The project gained approval from Ilkley Town Council and planning permission from Bradford Council, alongside extensive consultation with business owners and landlords to secure installation sites.
Sarah Brookfield-Almond, Ilkley BID Manager, is delighted with the result and said:
“This project has been a true labour of love, and I’m grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing it to life, with special thanks to Ilkley Town Council for their grant contribution. The idea began with local businesses calling for ways to boost the visibility and appeal of this busy part of town, often passed through but not always given the attention it deserves.
“I’m thrilled the flags are in place for Yorkshire Day, and I’m confident they will instil a sense of pride and community spirit, serving as a lasting tribute to Yorkshire Day 2025. They’ll also showcase the Discover Ilkley brand as a valuable resource for residents and visitors wishing to find information about the town and its fantastic local businesses.”
