Airedale NHS Foundation Trust’s Neonatal Unit has been shortlisted for a 2025 Nursing Times Award.
The awards aim to shine a light on the brightest talent in the nursing profession and recognise the incredible contributions made by colleagues across a wide range of nursing specialities, from mental health to midwifery.
The unit’s work around providing psychological care for neonatal families and babies affected by substance abuse has been shortlisted in the Children’s Services category which celebrates innovative projects that improve outcomes for children from birth to adolescence.
By adopting a care approach that is informed by the effects of trauma exposure on an individual’s development, the initiative aims to better support the emotional and psychological needs of families during a baby’s time on the neonatal unit.
The award nomination was submitted by Neonatal Sister, Chloe Taylor, who led on this project:
“As neonatal nurses, we can sometimes take over as primary caregivers in complex situations which can affect the bonding process between the baby and their family, potentially impacting a child’s future development.
“By adopting a trauma-informed approach, the team is advocating for care that empowers parents rather than replacing them to help preserve and strengthen the parent-child bond.
“We’re immensely proud of this work which is making a real difference to babies and their families and it’s an honour to see its impact being recognised nationally through this shortlisting.”
Winners will be announced at the awards event which will take place on Wednesday 22 October 2025 at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
