Garden enthusiasts can learn more about supporting their local plant and wildlife at Ecology Building Society this weekend.
The Society is hosting two talks by permaculture specialist Pippa Chapman on Sunday, 6 July, as part of Silsden’s Green Weekend.
Pippa will be talking about how she has designed and maintained Ecology’s garden at its Belton Road headquarters to support and encourage biodiversity, without the use of pesticides.
There are two talks at 10am and 11.30am on Sunday and numbers are limited. Admission costs £2.50 and tickets can be bought in advance from Olive & Green in Briggate.
Ecology welcomed more than 140 visitors during Silsden Open Gardens on 28 and 29 June, with some coming from as far afield as Preston.
Lara Clarkson, the Society’s Facilities Officer, hosted the visitors and shared a map of the Ecology site, including its head office building which benefits from a living roof with rainwater harvesting and solar panels, as well as a boardroom built from straw bales.
Lara commented:
“We were very happy to welcome so many people who were curious to have a look around and we look forward to seeing more visitors this Sunday.”
“Pippa is really knowledgeable and full of advice to help gardeners follow permaculture principles, whatever the size of their plot.
“Colleagues at Ecology are fortunate to be able to enjoy our office garden but the adjoining community garden, on the north-east end of our site, is open to all and well-used by locals, with edible planting everyone can access.”
