Ilkley Good Neighbours is appealing for 50 hardy supporters to take a deep breath and get into the White Wells plunge pool this March as part of the charity’s 50th anniversary fund-raising campaign.
Currently celebrating its half century of helping people in the local community, the charity is staging a number of events to raise a target sum of £50,000 to help it continue to operate its key projects such as Shop Assist, social friendship group Moving On, the one-to-one Befriending service, and the recently introduced Dementia Hub and Café which provides support for possible sufferers and their carers.
“As part of our 50th anniversary year we are looking at various ways of raising essential funds and thought an unusual charity event like this could be a bit of fun for the participants while at the same time generating financial support for the projects we run to help the community”
said Vice Chair Penny Coulthard.
“We are asking anyone who would like to take part at the event on March 8th and can bring some sponsorship – whatever the amount – to register their interest at our web link here. Local companies and organisations are also welcome to join in. If you missed having a New Year dip in the famous baths on the moor, here’s your chance!”
White Wells Baths tenant and manager Mark Hunnebell said:
“As a family we’ve seen at first hand the valuable help that Good Neighbours provides for older people in our community. We’re excited to be supporting them in their fund raising efforts by hosting a dip in the bath.”
Penny added:
"For those who might baulk at a watery plunge on a possibly chilly March day, there is another option, that is to be sponsored not to take part.
“Even if they don’t have a dip, we are hoping that people will kindly donate by using our site at: justgiving.com/page/white-wells-dip."
