Food waste collections set to be introduced in Ilkley

Households across Ilkley will soon receive new bins as Bradford Council prepares to introduce separate food waste collections.

Every house will be provided with a small kitchen caddy, liners and an outdoor food waste bin as part of the new service.

Ahead of the rollout, Bradford Council's recycling exhibition vehicle, Gigi, will visit Tesco in Ilkley tomorrow (Tuesday 22nd September), alongside members of the council's recycling team.

Residents will be able to find out more about how the new collections will work and what can and cannot be placed in the food waste bins.

The new bins will accept most cooked and uncooked food waste, including leftovers, mouldy or out-of-date food, tea bags and coffee grounds.

Meat, fish and bones can also be included, alongside pasta, rice, lentils, beans, bread, cakes, cheese, eggs and eggshells.

Ready meals that have passed their use-by date can be disposed of in the food waste bin once the packaging has been removed, while uneaten pet food can also be included.

However, residents are being asked not to put packaging, liquids, garden waste or oil into the new bins.

Packaging should continue to be disposed of using the appropriate recycling or general waste bin under existing guidelines.
