Burley-in-Wharfedale will be hosting its now annual Duck Race on Sunday 15th June 2025, which is also Father's Day.
The race starts at 2pm in the river towards the east of the village (past St Marys and across the A65) and is followed by Teas on the Green by Burley in Wharfedale Guides.
There are prizes for the ticket holders with the numbers matching the first 5 ducks who cross the finishing line.
Tickets are priced at just £1 each, and can be bought from any Burley in Wharfedale Community Trust Trustee (*see bottom), Guide or Trojan football club members and are also on sale at the Wharfedale Deli and Cockpit Farm Cafe at the bottom of Station Road in the Village.
Proceeds from the tickets will be split between the Community Trust, Burley Guides and Burley Trojan Football Club. Money raised will go into community projects in and around the village, help fund the building of a new pavilion for the football club, plus provide support for the Guides in the village.
This time of year, also sees nearly one thousand members of the Community Trust renew their membership. If you would like to join the Trust, details can be found on the website burleycommunitytrust.org.uk. Membership costs £15 for individuals, £20 for group or family membership and £150 for individual life membership.
The Trust is involved in many projects to enhance the village and the sense of community. Examples include helping coordinate and run the Christmas Lights, street and craft markets, the Duck Race and Teas On The Green, the Wharfedale Wombles litter pickers and the Burley Summer Festival.
It also maintains certain village assets including the Scalebor Pavilion and playing fields, Cornmill Pond, Pudding Tree and Jubilee Gardens.
The Trust has recently refurbished the Fountain of Life and Roundhouse Garden, helped fund the new playground, herb and vegetable gardens, installed information boards around the village, funded extracurricular school activities and developed the new Discover Burley website.
Future projects include assisting with funding for people through the Primary Schools & Youth Outreach, raising funds for the Pump and Balance Bike tracks, supporting the sports clubs, other facilities and voluntary organisations in the village.
