Ilkley Town Hall to close for essential refurbishment

Ilkley Town Hall will be closing on Thursday 17th April for building works

Ilkley Town Hall will be closing on Thursday 17th April whilst Bradford Council work to upgrade the outdated central heating system and remove any asbestos from the roof.

Ilkley Town Council staff will be relocating to temporary office space on The Grove whilst the work takes place. Although visitors won’t be able to access the new office, the Clerk can still be contacted during office hours via email and phone.

There will also be fortnightly drop-in sessions, held at the Clarke Foley Community Hub every other Tuesday, to allow residents and visitors to regularly meet with Councillors and Council staff in person.

Now a Grade II listed building, Ilkley Town Hall was first opened in April 1908, 117 years ago. On May 6th, 1908, the Council had their first meeting in the Council Chamber and it has been used for the same purpose ever since. The Town Hall still retains its original furniture and features of oak panelling and a central lantern light.

Ilkley’s Deputy Mayor, Jane Gibson, says:

"Bradford Council has identified that work needs to be done to the Town Hall to improve the efficiency of its central heating system and to ensure the safety of everyone working in or visiting the building. Although there is no fixed date for Ilkley Town Council to move back to the building, it is hoped that work will be completed in a timely manner so that we can once again be easily accessible to anyone wishing to liaise with the Council."
