Curly Hill Campsite & Centre in Ilkley will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2025.
The land upon which Curly Hill Campsite & Centre is situated was donated to Wharfedale Scouts by local businessman Colonel Maufe in 1950. Over the intervening period it has developed into a highly popular campsite & residential centre used by scouts, guides, schools, and other community organisations.
Many thousands of young people have benefitted from the Colonel’s generosity enabling them to experience the outdoors with great views over Ilkley and the Moors. We are expecting over 4000 visitors this year!
The site is managed by a small team of dedicated volunteers who undertake regular maintenance of the centre and grounds.
Jeremy Ince, lead volunteer said:
“We are keen to welcome some new volunteers to act as host for our many visitors as well as help with general upkeep. If you are interested and would like further information, please email curlyhillmanager@wharfedalescouts.org.uk
“To celebrate our special anniversary, we are planning a free community event on 13 September. Members of the public, young and old are invited to drop in for a tour of the site and to participate in some outdoor activities. We look forward to seeing you at Curly Hill.”
The event in Saturday 13 September is between 10am and 4pm and refreshments will be available.
