Held at the Ilkley Rugby Club at the end of 2024, the annual ‘Charity Business Quiz’ was decided by a tie breaker question.
The event was first held in 1996 organized by Action Aid, with the late Andrew Hartley, from Dacre Son & Hartley, donating a cup for the winning team. More recently the Rotary Club of Ilkley have taken over the running of the event, with Rotarian David Shaw MBE, as the lead organiser.
The event sponsored by Ison Harrison Solicitors featured 16 teams and after 12 rounds was tied. The result was decided by a tie breaker the question, “How long is the Trans Siberian Railway?”
The winning team of Richard Archer, Marilyn Heron, Mike Roberts and his wife Sylvia Roberts were presented with the Andrew Hartley Cup by David Shaw MBE.
The raffle raised around £1,000 for Ilkley & District Good Neighbours and the Clarke Foley Community Hub, with The Ilkley Brewery donating the lead raffle prize.
Speaking after he was presented with the Andrew Hartley Cup, the captain of the winning team, Richard Archer, who was one of the original organisers of the Quiz, thanked the Rotary Club of Ilkley, the sponsors, the caterers and Dacre Son and Hartley for its support over the years.
The answer to the tie breaker …… 9,289 kilometers or 5,772 miles!
